What happened to 2010?  Why no posts?

There might be a few additional questions along the line of the ones above, but those two are a good starting point.  In short, life got in the way.  My parents are both in their 80s and I’m their only off-spring.  My father began experiencing a very serious decline in his health during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays of 2009.

Beginning mid-January of 2010, I needed to be with them several times for extended periods throughout the first half of the year.  Fortunately, my recurring client projects were of the nature I could work from my parents’ place.  But the ability to get out and network were spotty at best – kind of tough to hit the organization meetings in Atlanta when I was in Tallahassee.  Moreover, I was hesitant to seek new business due to the uncertainty of my availability at the time.  I don’t like to sell something I can’t deliver on, and if my father had taken a turn for the worse, I can assure you he would have taken precedence.  That wouldn’t have been fair to the clients, but that’s what would have happened.  Things are better now thankfully.

During my “down time”, I pursued several new online business ventures with a colleague that have worked out fairly well (affiliate sites, to be specific – no clients, no filling orders and no one will die if they cease to exist).

Since much of what I bring to my clients can only be shared in general terms – there’s too much potential for competitors to observe and counter react to – I struggled with what to write about.  Milk toast write-ups generate milk toast interest.  Bleh.  I now have the freedom to share knowledge from my own undertakings.  Real things, not conceptual or generic, but real.  I no longer have to worry about sharing too much and blowing a client’s competitive advantage – I now only have to be concerned with what I might lose.  I find it liberating.

I hope you find the work I’ll be writing about within this blog both informative and insightful.  So to end, thanks for your time and attention to this point; it is much appreciated.
